Its lunch time and ive mailed a few of my friends 😉
looks like i might get to munich in december. I hope i see snow this year. I should be able to meet a friend in Munich who is retiring. A lucky coincidence! I might even go skiing! Not been since i broke my leg.
This is where i spent the day after breaking my leg…
. Stil it was minus 8 but lovely and warm so it wasnt too bad sat with a nice Weiss Bier and a handfull of ice down my skiboot.
This leads me on to a story of German Medical care as experienced by an ex-pat…
This is more for my memory than anyones amusement… the point being for me to look back one day and remember.
Typically i had broken my leg on the second run down. I was wearing short skis or Ski Blades are they are known. Fantastic fun as you can turn on a sixpence but not so easy to go fast safely. So i was travelling down enjoying the stunning view on such a crisp blue sky day when i realised i was getting too close to a woman coming from my right. so rather than go faster i turned further right up the hill. But she did the same and so i ran over the back of her skis and lost my balance. I got up and dusted myself down thinking i was just a bit battered and so skiied on down. Felling more or less recovered and just a bit iritated at having fallen i queued for the lift. As i stood there i felt a tremendous pain in my left calf like it was being swueezed. I hobbled on to the lift and felt ok when i sat down. But as soon as i kicked off down the slope i knew something was wrong. It was quite painfull so when i got to the lift this time i carried on to the bar and sat out. As i sat there with a beer i put some ice down my boot. thinking it would be ok. But i ended up sitting there the rest of the day not even drinking much as i was the driver!!
The day wasnt over though. I ended up sitting there so long we thought the lift down had stopped. So i decided to ski down to the bottom which wasnt too bad as i could ski on one side and then just skid along to turn and carryon.
At the bottom was when i felt the worst pain. i had undone my boot to make it easier to walk but of course this allowed the fibular to flex (it was the fibular i had broken) so walking across an icy car park was very painfull!. Ironically driving wasn’t so bad as it was my left foot and changing gear was ok. We did stop at a nice restaurant on the way home though!
Here i am second from the left. No one thought i had broken my leg!
By the time i dropped everyone off and returned home i was too tired to worry about my leg and so went to bed.
The next morning though i realised i had to go to the Hospital. Which leads me to a nice end for today….
