I awoke hoping that the pain had gone. but sadly no. It was still there and probably even more painful. It had kept me awake as there just didnt seem to be a comfortable positioon. In fact it was to be a week or more befor ei could find comfort.
So off we went to Starnberg Hospital. As i appeared to be walking i think they didnt treat me with any urgency as when after 45 minutes they called me through they seemed somewhat surprised at my limping. The X-ray which in German is called a R?ntgenbild after the guy who invented it clearly showed a nice break in my left fibula. Treatment apparently is simply to not place any weight on it for 6 weeks. No plaster and no bandage. Just wear these crutches and off you go.
So there ended my skiing in career for now. I must say though thast this is another example of where learning a language takes another turn. Who would have thought that an X-ray is a R?ntgenbild???
So i spent the next few weeks at home gradually putting more weight on my leg and also getting a few checks at the hospital all of which was quite easy and never incurred much of a wait.
The next interesting thing was when we needed to drive back to the UK for half term in February.
We wernet sure how to procede so went to a local doctor as I was concerned at travelling without a plaster cast or bandage. He X-rayed me and then said he wasnt sure go to a normal doctor. So off i go to another doctor and she said i should also go to the local hospital who eventually gave me a bandage and a pack of syringes to inject my self to help stop blood clotting.
Sadly im the type who faints having his ears syringed (another German story about that too lol), so you can imagine how worried i was at having to stab myself in the stomach with a needle!
But after the first couple of times i managed to get used to the odd feeling but it was a bit hard when after a few days i was a mass of bruises from the needles!
We managed the trip home ok. I sat in the rear seat of the Galaxy with my foot perched on the suitcase while my wife drove. We spent a pleasant week in the UK hobbling about. I even managed to get a motorised disabled buggy at Milton Keynes shopping centre provided free of charge by the mobility people. What a god send that was! I did feel a bit of a cheat but at the same time it made life so much better. I really appreciate how hard it must be for people to get around without the help of the Mobility people.
